Children will learn about the traditional fishing practices of Indigenous people and the deep cultural knowledge passed down for generations. The Dreamtime story of Thukeri will be shared, teaching an important lesson about overfishing, greed, and the importance of respecting and caring for our natural environment.
To bring these traditions to life, a traditional fish trap will be demonstrated, along with explanations of time-honoured fishing techniques. During the excursion, the trap will be placed in the water, allowing kids to observe the process and hopefully witness a catch using these traditional methods.
Of course, children will still experience all the thrill of casting their own line and hopefully (fingers crossed) catching a fish.
